CONS-09 // HAZARD IDENTIFICATION
HAZID & Hazard Studies
Structured hazard identification for new projects, expansions, and operating facilities in oil and gas, petrochemicals, and other process industries. A facilitated multidisciplinary workshop screens the facility against a guideword checklist, ranks major accident hazards, and produces a hazard register whose actions carry into design, HAZOP, and operations.
WHO IT IS FOR
Owners, operators, and EPC contractors in upstream and downstream oil and gas, petrochemicals, chemicals, power, and smelting, at concept, FEED, or detailed design, as well as operating sites that have never had a structured hazard identification.
WHEN YOU NEED IT
A new project or expansion entering FEED, a change in feedstock or operating envelope, a lender, insurer, or partner asking for a hazard register, or an operating site preparing for a HAZOP or a process safety review.
WHAT YOU RECEIVE
- Study terms of reference, area breakdown, and guideword checklist agreed with your team
- Facilitated HAZID workshop with an independent chair and a dedicated scribe
- Hazard register ranked against your own risk matrix
- List of major accident hazards and the safeguards each one relies on
- HAZID report with an action list, owners, and target dates
WHAT WE NEED FROM YOU
- Plot plan, process description, and block flow diagrams or PFDs
- Basis of design and site data, including the environmental and social setting
- Your corporate risk matrix
- Discipline engineers and an operations representative available for the workshop
FREQUENTLY ASKED QUESTIONS
What is the difference between HAZID and HAZOP?
HAZID looks at the facility as a whole and asks which major hazards exist and where. HAZOP goes through the P&IDs line by line and asks how deviations from the design intent can happen. HAZID usually comes first, at concept or FEED, and HAZOP follows once the P&IDs are mature.
Can the workshop cover environmental and health hazards?
Yes. Environmental hazard identification (ENVID) and health hazard screening can run in the same workshop or as separate sessions, using the same register format.
Who chairs the workshop?
An experienced process safety facilitator who is independent of the design team, so the workshop challenges the design instead of defending it. We confirm the chair's experience with you before the study starts.
