BUYER'S GUIDE

Choosing a Lockout Station or Box

Stations and boxes keep lockout devices organised, visible and close to the equipment. A group lock box lets a whole crew control one lockout through the keys of the isolation locks.

  1. Size the station for the number of padlocks, hasps and tags that the area needs, plus spares.
  2. In group lockout, the isolation lock keys go into the box and each worker places a personal lock on the box.
  3. Wall-mounted stations suit fixed work areas; portable bags and boxes suit maintenance crews that move between sites.

Summarised from the manufacturer's catalogue and the general requirements for lockout devices in OSHA 29 CFR 1910.147. Device selection must follow your written energy isolation procedure and site risk assessment.
