BUYER'S GUIDE
Confined Space Entry and Retrieval
Confined spaces have limited openings for entry and exit, such as storage tanks, process vessels, ship compartments, pits, silos, sewers, boilers, tunnels and pipelines. Davits, tripods and winches provide the overhead anchorage and the means to lower, lift and retrieve workers safely.
- Make sure the tripod or davit is correctly installed, fitted, suitably rated and certified before entry.
- Before use, inspect the confined space harness, the Type 3 rescue retrieval SRL, the inertia reel and the rescue winch.
- Use a full body confined space harness with a rear fall arrest point and shoulder confined space loops; with a spreader bar, use the arm straps.
- A rescue winch used for personnel must be backed up by a fall arrest block.
- Have a rescue plan in place and keep rescue equipment available for the whole time work is under way.
